Catterall Stops Essuman and Seeks Norman Jr. vs Haney Winner
When last in the squared circle, UK welterweight boxer Jack “El Gato” Catterall (32-2, 14 KO’s) picked up an eleventh-round TKO over Ekow Essuman. The duel stood and his third bout of the year, and second win, having lost his first match of 2025 to Arnold Barboza Jr. Since that defeat, Catterall has dusted himself back off and earned himself the rankings of #7 (WBC), #7 (WBA), #8 (WBO) and #11 (IBF). He now intends to match with WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. or Devin Haney.
With these standings, the talented fighter has a number of options. Yet, when asked directly after his prizefight with Essuman, El Gato and his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, expressed their interest in facing the winner of the upcoming showdown between Norman Jr. and Haney. Haney and Norman will clash on November 22.
Along with the spoils of war in this battle with Essuman, Catterall picked up the WBO welterweight global title. While this is a secondary title, it should be sufficient to place El Gato in the mandatory position to face off with the desired victor of the Haney versus Norman duel. So, for the time being, just like Jack Catterall himself, we will just have to wait and see who prevails in the highly anticipated welterweight brawl.
