Junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan wants to go back to Al Haymon!

Junior Middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (36-4-1, 21KO) could be on the verge of retiring with one last message for his former employer Al Haymon.

The 32 year-old wouldn’t mind returning and fighting under the Premier Boxing Champions banner. During an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio, he stated:

“The one thing I regret is bad-mouthing Haymon because I have nothing bad to say about him.”

“That was a mistake I made and I want him to know I’m thankful for him. At the end of the day, he takes care of his fighters. He took care of me. If he’s willing to do something, I’m ready to go.”

Martirosyan’s career has had some ups and downs. He was defeated in two opportunities to fight for a world title, then would leave the banner out of frustration. Teaming up with Promoter Don King in 2016, he only fought onetime during a two year span.

His last fight was on May 2018 against then unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. He was a last minute replacement when Canelo Alvarez’s positive test came into play. Suffering a brutal knock out loss, he has since been contemplating retiring from the sport.

There is a possibility that Haymon could have a spot for him, given the recent re-signings of former world champions Robert Guerrero, Marcos Maidana and Yuriorkis Gamboa. Martirosyan is still a durable veteran that can provide some use.

A stay-busy fight can be arranged with unified champion Jarret Hurd or WBC Interim middleweight champion Jermall Charlo while both men are waiting for things to be hashed out in their respective divisions.

Boxing is a tough sport and even tougher on the business side. These fighters take risks every time they enter the ring with no guarantee of any kind of life afterwards. We as fans and pundits should remember that and appreciate everything these fighters have sacrificed.
