Claressa Shields says Cecilia Braekhus is a coward!
Following her April 2019 victory over Christina Hammer, unified middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2 KO’s) called out undisputed world welterweight champion “First Lady” Cecilia Braekhus (36-0, 9 KO’s).
Upon hearing of the challenge, Braekhus quickly responded by saying that she would be interested in this dust-up.
The first huge hurdle in making this a reality was figuring out in what division would they compete. Was the First Lady going to come up, Shields go down or would they meet in the middle? The undisputed middleweight champion felt as though they could collide in the middle.
Yet, after stating her feelings, T-Rex began dropping weight and even took a fight with Ivana Habazin (20-4, 7 KO’s) at super welterweight to show that she was deadly serious about making the fight.
QUIT RUNNING, STOP HIDING!!
Regrettably, ever since Shields began making serious and tangible efforts to make the fight, Braekhus has become deathly quiet on the subject.
Let Shields tell it, she doesn’t need Scooby and the gang to figure out this mystery. For the Flint, Michigan native, this is a clearcut example of ducking and hiding.
Shields probably would have come to this conclusion anyway, but Braekhus’ willingness to talk about making fights with other notable names has only solidified T-Rex’s theories. As a result, Shields made a number of posts on her Twitter account where she deemed the First Lady to be a yellow-bellied fighter.
T-Rex was irritated by the fact that not only was Braekhus no longer talking about a fight with her, she’d begun entertaining a number of potential fights with the smaller Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano due to her deal with Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing and DAZN.
T-Rex took issue with Braekhus’s willingness to face boxers smaller than herself but not larger. This is what caused Shields to call her cowardly.
It would be cool to see an international showdown between Shields versus Braekhus. However, at the moment, such an event appears to be overtly unlikely.
