Canelo Alvarez and Trainer Eddy Reynoso Discuss The Keys To Defeating Caleb Plant

The excitement level is building for the November 6 super middleweight unification showdown between WBA ‘super’/WBC/WBO world champion Canelo Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) and IBF world titleholder Caleb Plant (21-0, 12 KOs). Alvarez is the marquee attraction and the most visible fighter in the sport currently. Whenever he has a fight coming up, the coverage is immense.

MAKING THE MEDIA ROUNDS

It has been the case once again during the lead-up to his fight against Plant. Pre-fight hype includes not only your standard public press events. As the sport made adjustments because of COVID-19, you now have video conference calls via platforms such as Zoom.

3KingsBoxing attended such a conference on October 27 between Alvarez, his trainer Eddy Reynoso, and members of the boxing press. The topic was, of course, his upcoming fight. The superstar from Mexico disclosed that training has been going very well.

NOT TAKING CALEB PLANT LIGHTLY

Most pundits view him as a prohibitive favorite. However, Reynoso warns that things could face some difficulty early on.

“Plant is a skilled fighter, someone who works really well with his legs. In the end, we think that coming out and in a really aggressive fashion in the first few rounds will be giving the fight away. We don’t wanna do that. We have to be patient and let the fight progress, and let the middle rounds come, and do what we want to do.”

Alvarez made sure to note his opponent’s jab, boxing skills, and maneuverability. But he believes that, over time, they will be able to break him down. They contended that ultimately Canelo’s experience and power are going to be too much. When asked about Plant never being put down as a pro, the unified champ smiled and said Plant’s beard better to be up to snuff if he has any chance of surviving.

“I hope has a good chin because he’s going to need it.”

If this discussion is any indication, Team Alvarez has full confidence that, in the end, Canelo Alvarez will have his hand raised in victory and will leave the ring as the undisputed champion of the world at 168 pounds.
