Denzel Bentley Serves Linus Udofia his First Professional Loss
On May 13, two rival middleweights squared off in an entertaining, pivotal domestic showdown when Denzel Bentley (16-1-1, 13KOs) took on the previously unbeaten Linus Udofia (17-1, 9KOs). Bentley went into the fight 1-1 in his last two bouts. The lone loss on his record came to highly rated middleweight contender Felix Cash in April of 2021, when he was stopped in three rounds. He bounced back with a knockout win over Sam Evans in November of 2021.
As for Udofia, he had yet tot taste defeat as he had beaten his previous seventeen opponents. The 28-year-old was a popular pick to defeat Bentley.
Both men were very confident leading up to the bout. Once the bell rang, both men came out looking to prove a point as the action was fast-paced. Both men would frequently lead with their left hooks, followed by their right hands. However, the tide turned in the second half!
As the fight went into the second half, the more experienced Bentley started to take over. By this time, Udofia was winded and his punches had less effect. Sensing he needed to step up his attack, Bentley did just that, outworking him until the final bell.
This resulted in Bentley eking out a split decision win, which will propel him into bigger domestic showdowns as he continues his career. Maybe down the line, if he keeps winning and becomes ranked, he can attempt to exact revenge against Cash.
