Denzel Bentley Stops Saavedra; Calls Alimkhanuly A PED Cheat

Newly crowned WBO interim middleweight titlist Denzel “Too Sharp” Bentley came from behind to stop Endry “El Chino” Saavedra in the seventh round. Too Sharp quickly claimed to be a world champion while taking a shot at WBO champion Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12KO).

El Chino (17-2-1, 14KO) was in control of the fight early with blistering combinations and pressure. He was overwhelming Bentley with punches, which kept him on the back foot. However, Bentley (22-3-1, 18KO) came alive and landed a hard counter-shot that wobbled the Venezuelan’s legs. He continued to throw and land vicious shots, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

WILL HE BE ELEVATED TO CHAMPION ?

During the in-ring post-fight interview, Bentley made it clear that he’s the legit world champion and not the interim title holder. Furthermore, he wasted no time in taking a direct shot at Alimkhanuly for testing positive for a banned substance.

“I think we gotta drop the interim. I’m a world champion, I don’t care what anyone says…He’s (Alimkhanuly) a world champion that ain’t even allowed to box for now. No disrespect to anyone, but we don’t respect PED cheats around here.”

Bentley lost to Alimkhanuly in a spirited contest back in 2022. He has a solid point, and the WBO may be forced to make a decision concerning this situation. The organization could elevate him to full champion and place Alimkhanuly as champion-in-recess. This would mean that whenever he is ready to return and fight, Bentley would be at the top of the list.
