Miguel Berchelt injures hand; rematch with Francisco Vargas postponed
WBC junior lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt (35-1, 31KO) has suffered a hand injury during training. As a result, March 23 is a no go as a later date for the rematch is being discussed.
Recent reports mention a tentative rescheduling date of May 11 as possible.
Apparently, this injury is a lingering one from his bout with Miguel Roman in November 2018. He won by technical knockout in the ninth round.
Berchelt defeated Vargas two years ago via eleventh round stoppage to become the green belt champion. The end result made that bout a candidate for 2017 Fight of the Year!
Since that fight, the champion has added four more successful title defenses. Vargas has won two consecutive fights since that loss.
Thankfully the rematch is just postponed and not cancelled as it promises to be just as exciting as the first time!
