Marcus Browne’s Father Hospitalized with COVID-19
Unfortunately, as the days rapidly tick by, COVID-19 continues to have a greater and greater negative influence on the boxing world. Now, in a late breaking post to his Instagram account, light heavyweight “Sir” Marcus Browne (23-1, 16 KO’s) reached out for prayers from the fans.
Apparently, his father is in the hospital as a result of contracting the coronavirus. What his exact condition is remains a private matter. However, given how deadly this virus has proven to be, this is clearly a serious cause of concern.
DEADLY DAYS
Browne’s father has extended a chilling new trend of high profile fighters and boxing staff detrimentally affected by the pandemic. Earlier this week, former super welterweight champion Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (28-3, 21 KO’s) lost his father and trainer, Ali Salaam, to the deadly virus.
In startling fashion, Salaam’s passing came on the heels of the death of famed referee Eddie Cotton. Yet, the wave of bad news appears to have kicked off at the tail end of March when UK light heavyweight fighter Anthony Yarde (19-1, 18 KO’s) announced that he his father died of complications from a deadly duel with COVID-19.
Obviously, while the deaths on record are already tragic and heartbreaking, the best that we can hope for is no more terminal announcements are coming down the pipe. However, with the rate that the pandemic is wreaking havoc, there really is no telling who will be affected next or to what degree.
We here at 3kingsboxing send our heartfelt condolences to all these families and hope that everyone is remaining as safe as possible during this deadly and gloomy ordeal.
