Andrew Cain Should Target A Rematch With Ionut Baluta

Relative unknown Andrew Cain (14-1, 12KO) defeated a former WBC flyweight champion Charlie Edwards (20-2, 7KO) who ran all fight. With this victory, Cain will receive a bump in the rankings and should target a rematch with super bantamweight Ionut Baluta (17-5-1, 3KO).

Edwards never engaged and fought scared while trying to avoid Cain’s power. He made it a boring fight by moving around the ring while Cain came forward and was the more aggressive fighter. When the final bell sounded, one judge scored it for Edwards 115-113, while Cain received scorecards of 116-112 and 115-114.

Ranked #15 by the WBC Cain will receive a nice bump up in the rankings. When looking down the road, there are a few solid fights that could take place next. He could challenge Gary Antonio Russell or Mexican Jose Calderon Cervantes.

However, he should look to avenge a 2023 split decision loss to Baluta, who fought on the same card. The rematch should be a top priority for the newly crowned WBC bantamweight champion. Of course, they would have to work on what weight to fight. But all in all, it’s a fight that needs to happen this year.
