Alvarez underwent surgery earlier today in Mexico
Reports surfaced earlier today that Canelo Alvarez was in the hospital for arthroscopic knee surgery. The reports were unable to be confirmed. Golden Boy President, Eric Gomez, did however later tell ESPN Deportes that Alvarez was undergoing a “cosmetic procedure” in Mexico.
Canelo has personally confirmed through a statement that the information first published in Mexico was indeed accurate.
“I want to share with you that today that I had to undergo an arthroscopic surgery to repair the internal femoral cartilage and to eliminate a fold in my right knee. I dismiss the erroneous information published by Golden Boy president Eric Gomez. Thanks for worrying, and in three to four weeks I’ll be like new,” Canelo stated.
Alvarez is scheduled for a disciplinary hearing on April 18th stemming from the two failed drug tests he had on February 17th and 20th. The Mexican superstar tested positive for Clenbuterol, the result of which led to the cancellation of his scheduled rematch with Gennady Golovkin.
