Canelo Alvarez Says 168 is The Perfect Division for Him!

After being on the wrong side of a boxing lesson at the hands of WBA Super 175-pound champion Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11KOs) back in May, undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39KOs) admits that the super middleweight division is the best for him. With less than three weeks until he rematches archrival Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37KOs), boxing’s face opened up about his comfort level fighting as a super middleweight.

“I think 168 is my best – I feel my best at 168. I feel I’m in my prime, I think that weight is perfect for me, for my body, for my skills. “

Given how he walked through his opponents on his undisputed run, it’s safe to say that the super middleweight division is somewhere he should stay, unless he feels the need to pursue other bouts at higher weight classes. However, after being so soundly outboxed by Bivol, the questions on whether or not he can win against the elite bigger fighters will always be there no matter how confident he says he is.

For the time being, Canelo is back at the weight he’s most comfortable with against a guy he truly despises. With September 17 quickly approaching, he has a chance to get the nasty taste of the Bivol loss out of his mouth, while possibly sending Golovkin into retirement at the same time.
