Charles Conwell Remains Undefeated Over Gerardo Vergara
Junior middleweight top contender Charles “Bad News” Conwell (21-0, 16KO) continued his knockout streak by stopping Gerardo “El Tifon” Vergara (20-1, 13KO).
Conwell controlled the fight with sharp punching. He landed the straight right hand with ease and put Vergara in retreat mode after landing a painful body shot. Even when El Tifon landed some solid punches, the Michigan native returned fire, landing a series of hard punches.
Vergara quickly retreated whenever Conwell landed a hard body shot. It was a one-sided beatdown as the WBO #3 contender was levels above the Argentinian. The crowd was restless and started booing, which fired up Bad News.
He came out like a man on a mission and landed a brutal counter that hurt Vergara. After landing several unanswered shots, the referee quickly stopped the fight in the seventh round.
It was the statement performance Conwell wanted under the spotlight on the big stage. In the in-ring, post-fight interview, Conwell expressed wanting to take on Golden Boy stablemate Vergil Ortiz.
