Daniel Jacobs vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in play for December!
It looks as if Julio Cesar Chavez Jr could be back in a significant fight before the year is up! In an interview with ESPN Deportes, Chavez Jr revealed he has an offer from Eddie Hearn to face former IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs on December 14.
The son of a legend is fresh off an unsurprising first knockout victory over journeyman Evert Bravo on August 10.
For his return, he initially stated he wanted to face fellow Mexican Alfredo Angulo in September. However, the opportunity against Jacobs in America presents an enticing proposition.
At least enticing enough to get the former champion to think long and hard about it before making his next decision.
CHAVEZ SPEAKS
“I am training, I have been doing it since my last fight in August. Plan A, already know it is the fight with Jacobs, but there are details that we are discussing.
“They tell me of a minor title at 168 pounds, but I would love to go for a worldwide recognized title. If we are going to make that effort, it would be good to do it for a good prize and I don’t mean the economic thing.”
If we’re being honest, this appears to be a win-win situation for both Jacobs and Chavez for different reasons.
For Jacobs, making his debut at 168 against a guy like Chavez would be a test to see if he can deal with the physicality of a bigger man. He can also see how his power and endurance translate.
For Chavez, it could be his last big payday in a marquee match-up.
