Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn October 8 Bout Dealt A Huge Blow
The United Kingdom boxing fans have been hit below the belt today with the postponement of the family rivalry bout between Chris Eubank Jr (32-2, 23KO) and Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (21-0, 14KO). The bout was already in jeopardy after reports surfaced that Benn tested positive for the banned substance Clomiphene.
The BBBofC (British Boxing Board of Control) immediately removed their involvement in sanctioning the fight. Benn and Eubank Jr spoke to the DAZN network proclaiming that they wanted the fight to proceed regardless of the positive test result.
Matchroom Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn insisted that the fight go forward and hinted at taking matters to the high court if necessary. Boxing fans went to sleep yesterday only to awaken to news of the bout’s cancellation.
EARLY MORNING BAD NEWS
Early reports hit the news cycle stating that the fight was perhaps going to happen as interest from foreign commissions could save the event. It seemed like a good sign of relief until the first shoe dropped.
Fans were settling in on the good news about the fight possibly happening while drinking their cup of coffee. Then Hearn took to social media to profess an unwillingness to allow the fight to be sanctioned by an outside commission.
Next, the British promoter dropped the second shoe by updating the fans that the fight is officially postponed. Furthermore, he went after the BBBofC for withdrawing their support without due process.
As of the writing of this article, there has been no information on the fight having a rescheduled date.
