Conor Benn Faces Rodolfo Orozoc in Return Fight in Florida
Matchroom Boxing has announced that welterweight Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) returns to the ring on September 23 against Rodolfo Orozco (32-3-3, 24 KOs) in a ten-round contest at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida. Upon the news of his upcoming fight, Benn posted the following on social media:
A POLARIZING FIGURE
Benn has become one of the sport’s controversial figures. A scheduled October 2022 grudge match with Chris Eubank Jr. got canceled when a pre-fight drug test revealed that Benn tested positive for the banned substance Clomiphene. Since then, The Destroyer has been on an ongoing quest to fight again and restore his reputation.
He is not allowed to fight in his home country of England. There is an ongoing investigation with the British Board Of Control, which has yet to issue Benn a license. His last appearance in the ring was in April 2022, when he stopped Chris Van Heerden in two rounds.
Despite the lengthy time away from fighting, Benn has stayed in the gym, believing he will eventually be allowed to fight again. The British welterweight has maintained his innocence throughout. In July 2023, UKAD gave him the clearance to continue his boxing career.
EAGER TO FIGHT
Benn is ecstatic about being able to put his talents on display once again. Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, he said the following about his upcoming opponent:
“I’m going to go in there and do what I gotta do. I ain’t really too concerned with what he (Orozco) does. I’m worried about what I do. I know what I’m capable of . . . I know what Conor Benn is good at, what Conor Benn does well, which to me, is everything. So, I’m gonna go in there, and do what I do.”
Orozco is a 24-year-old from Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico. He is not well known among the boxing masses and has fought his entire career in his home country of Mexico. The most recent outing for Orozco was a fourth-round stoppage over Elian Trejo Juarez in June 2023.
