Oscar De La Hoya Hopes to Re-sign Canelo Alvarez

While seeking to display his dominance in the sport of boxing, undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KO’s) ran into a brick wall. That wall took the form of the Super WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KO’s). Rather than repeat the success that he enjoyed while previously competing at 175-pounds, against Sergey Kovalev, the redhead was thoroughly out-boxed.

Despite it being ridiculously hard to find three, or even two, rounds to clearly award Alvarez, he still managed to lose by the unanimous narrow scores of 115-113. These cards did not in any way reflect the completely one-sided nature of the fight. Nevertheless, Canelo still walked away with his second professional loss.

LET’S DO IT AGAIN!

Regardless of the setback, the Mexican superstar is still a huge draw and attraction in the sport. As proof of this, his former promoter, Oscar de la Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, has put in his bid to reunite with the toppled titan. The act was not all that hard to believe, or foresee. While Canelo did take the significant loss, he retained his four belts at super middleweight which were not on the line. Therefore, not only is Alvarez still a mega-star in the sports world, he is literally still the undisputed super middleweight champion. This is no doubt the thought process behind the reach out. In the end though, De La Hoya is likely barking up the wrong tree.

Thus far DAZN and Eddie Hearn have done everything in their power to provide Canelo the red-carpet treatment that he’s become accustomed to. Not only that, his loss to Bivol had absolutely zero to do with the promotion of the event. Going a step further, Canelo appeared to leave Golden Boy with lingering bad taste in his mouth. The redhead felt that the company had mismanaged his career and was looking for something new. It remains very unlikely that Bivol punched Alvarez hard enough to change his mind back to Golden Boy. No matter how the situation resolves itself however, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
