Oscar De La Hoya Suggests Ryan Garcia vs Teofimo Lopez in 2024

Junior welterweight sensation “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19KO) could be gearing up for another blockbuster fight, this time against two-division champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (19-1, 13KO). According to Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya, a showdown between the two could be on the horizon for Super Bowl weekend.

On November 18, King Ryan will make his return to the ring after suffering his loss to multi-division champion Gervonta Davis. He recently sent social media into a frenzy by hinting at plans for a major fight in February 2024.

A POTENTIAL CLASH AGAINST A HIGH-PROFILE OPPONENT

During an interview with Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya hinted that The Takeover might be the opponent in question, when asked about the rumored fight.

“Look, there’s a huge weekend, Super Bowl weekend. You know we’re talking to some people, and I strongly feel that the only fighter who can headline such an event would be Ryan Garcia . . . obviously it all depends on the opponent. It has to be for a world title, it has to be against a huge name, a big name. So, we’ll see what plays out. But Ryan and Teo would be a lot of fun.”

Fans shouldn’t be too surprised by this development, as the current WBO champion’s name featured on a hitlist of potential opponents that Garcia shared on social media. Additionally, De La Hoya has mentioned that Teofimo Lopez Sr. expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of making this fight a reality.

While the relationship between Garcia and his promotional team has been rocky at times, boxing enthusiasts eagerly await to see if they can come together to make this highly anticipated matchup happen.
