Devin Haney is looking for Vasyl Lomachenko
WBC Lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (25-0, 15ko) is up to his old antics of taunting divisional rivals on social media. Recently, he has revisited trolling former unified champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-2, 10ko).
The Dream is looking to step into the ring supposedly in April against three-divisional champion Jorge Linares. However, the WBC champion could not help but poke fun at the misfortune of a guy he wanted to fight back in 2019.
CHASING LOMACHENKO
Back when The Dream was chasing a world championship by working his way up the ranking, there was the possibility of fighting for the WBC title when Mikey Garcia vacated the belt in pursuit of a fight with unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
Team Haney had agreed to fight for the title against two-time championship challenger Luke Campbell. However, the WBC decided to forgo Haney fighting Campbell. Instead, they inked Campbell to face the unified champion, Lomachenko.
Haney, disappointed about not fighting for the world championship, had to settle for a consolation prize by fighting for the Interim title against Zaur Abdullaev. The Dream was victorious and was the mandatory challenger to the winner of the Lomachenko and Campbell fight.
When Hi-Tech won the fight, team Haney was ready for a high-profile with Loma. However, the rug was pulled from up underneath their feet. The WBC bestowed the Franchise tag upon Lomachenko, clearing the way for the Top Rank planned showdown with then IBF champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez.
ROLES ARE REVERSED
After everything transpired, Haney was elevated from interim to full champion, and he was calling out the former top pound-for-pound fighter. Loma finally had enough of all the barking from the WBC champion and reminded him how he became a champion. Haney responded by making it clear he was asking for a fight and was not looking for a handout.
In 2020, the skillful unified champion would lose all of his belts including the franchise belt to the confident Lopez. Many pundits felt the one thing that hurt the former champion was taking too long trying to figure out the younger IBF champion.
While hoping to get a rematch with The Takeover, Loma is rumored to possibly be returning to the ring this summer against Masayoshi Nakatani, A former foe of the current unified champion, Lopez.
However, Haney could not help but notice the recent silence coming from the Loma camp. He would take to social media to ask fans “Where tf is Loma at!?!?!?”
This is when things got personal. The Dream took a brutal shot at his former rival’s critical error from the Lopez fight.
