Daniel Dubois says he has more than enough of an arsenal to beat Deontay Wilder!
When it comes to rising UK Heavyweight Daniel Dubois (14-0, 13 KOs) and his handlers, they seem to have one giant target on their minds once action returns in the ring, and that would be a showdown with former WBC world Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41KOs).
Talk of a potential fight between the two was sparked by Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren. According to Dev Sahni, host of The Lockdown Lowdown show, he would love to put his fighter in the ring against the former champ.
Speaking to Seconds Out about the possibility of a fight against the man known as “Bomb Squad”, the 22-year-old expressed excitement at the opportunity.
“He was champion a long time but his reign is over now. When we do meet, I’ll be looking forward to it. It’ll be interesting. I’ve got more tools. I’ve got plenty of tools to use. I’ll find a way to win and break him down.”
When asked whether he would stop Wilder, the fighter from London was absolute in his response.
“Yeah. Of course. This is what the heavyweight game is all about, knockouts and exciting nights. It’ll be interesting when it happens.”
Now obstacles are preventing such a fight right now. First, action in the ring has to resume due to fights currently on hold due to COVID-19. Once fighting resumes, both men have other obligations.
For Dubois, he has an upcoming bout scheduled against undefeated Joe Joyce (10-0, 9KOs), while Wilder has a third fight scheduled against the current WBC world Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs).
While it will be some time before we see a potential Wilder – Dubois contest, it says something about the confidence level of the Dubois camp that they are already talking of a fight against someone of Wilder’s stature and status.
