Jaron Ennis looking to steal the show
Welterweight dark horse Jaron “Boots” Ennis (27-0, 25 KO’s) will next slide through the ropes on October 30 to face Thomas “Thomas Cordero” Dulorme (25-5-1, 16 KO’s). Despite serving as the co-main event, the Ennis bout will largely be viewed as the feature attraction to most boxing fans. Despite his industry buzz, Ennis has had trouble securing the career emblazing marquee fights that he desires.
The switch-hitting Philly bruiser is not stressing over his situation, though. Ennis realizes that with his strong #3 (IBF), #5 (WBO), #5 (WBA) and #8 (WBC) standing in the rankings, something will materialize. So long as he keeps winning, he reckons he’ll be able to force a meaningful showdown sooner rather than later.
“I am ranked for every belt now, so there is no way they can get around it. But I feel like I’m going to have to be mandatory because these guys are not going to just going to just be like ‘oh let me pick Jaron, or pick him or him.’ They are going to go around me as long as they can. So, I’m going to say that I have be mandatory and we’re going to make it happen. I’ll be mandatory after this fight.”
THE BIG PICTURE
Ennis is patient because he knows that his grander goals in the sport will take some time to accomplish. Provided that he manages to keep his record unblemished, and secures the bigger fights that he wants, the talented contender is aiming to make history.
In the meantime though, he means to bid his time sharpening his skills and growing his reputation. When last in the squared-circle, Boots was putting knuckle to skull against Sergey Lipinets. During the contest, he managed to drop him twice and stop him in the sixth. When pitted against Thomas Dulorme, Ennis intends on being every bit as successful.
“My ultimate goal in boxing period is I want to be the first person to be a three or four time undisputed weight division champion. So I want to do that, that’s the goal for me, to go down in history as an all-time great and get all the best fights I can get.”
THE LONG SHOT
Logically speaking, if Jaron Ennis were able pull that grandiose feat off, then we would see him as the undisputed welterweight, super welterweight and middleweight champion of the world. Without question that would be a massive feather in his cap. First things come first though. Before there can be any historical fight runs, Boots must hike over Dulorme.
On the one hand, the Guadeloupean boxer is very experienced and has routinely held his own when dueling some of the best. On the other hand, Dulorme is rather long in the tooth and enters the bout coming off back-to-back losses to Eimantas Stanionis and Jamal James.
In fact, Thomas Dulorme has not enjoyed lodging in the win column since 2019 and his last victory before that was in 2017. Said to say, he is doing anything but setting the world on fire and his best days are a quickly shriveling bump in his rearview mirror. Certainly, Dulorme will put his best foot forward but the odds are leaning toward another win for Ennis.
