Tank Davis Says Ryan Garcia Lied About Contract Stipulations
Three-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26KO) claims to have recently lost all respect for rival “King” Ryan Garcia for lying about a stipulation in the contract.
Garcia has been complaining non-stop since the fight was announced for April 22. He did not like the rehydration clause that states he can’t gain more than 10 pounds at the next day’s weigh-in. Moreover, he claimed that Team Davis added in the contract that Garcia can’t eat or drink for three days out of the week.
DAVIS PUSHES BACK ON LIE TOLD BY GARCIA
While speaking with the press, Davis made it clear that statement was obviously a lie and the reason for his lack of respect toward Garcia.
“I ain’t gonna lie, me losing respect just was recently because first of all, he lied. Why would you even lie and put that out there that we put in the contract that you can’t drink no water or anything? . . . Like, you said that with a serious face. Of course, people that’s not boxing fans were going to believe it. Some people in the boxing world believed him, knowing that he was talking out of his ass.”
King Ryan’s last fight was at junior welterweight against Javier Fortuna on July 2022. So, naturally, he’s accusing the three-divisional champion of trying to weight-drain him by fighting a catch weight of 136 pounds. Yet, Garcia made it clear that he was willing to fight at lightweight, only against Davis. So, he has no one to blame but himself for leaving that door open for Tank to walk through it.
The reality is Garcia did not have to sign the contract. If he felt the demands were so ridiculous, why sign? In this author’s opinion, it sounds like he is getting the excuses ready in case of a loss.
