Golden Boy Promotions ESPN fight Madiev vs Cano
A few days before the mega middleweight showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Gennedy Golovkin, Golden Boy Promotions will host the Super-Lightweight contest of Ruslan Madiev (12-0, 5 KOs) against Pablo Cesar Cano (30-7-1, 21 KOs).
Madiev (25 y.o.), a Kazakh boxer, is another student under famed trainer Abel Sanchez. His victory over undefeated challenger Jesus Perez Campos displayed good boxing skills.
Being part of GGG’s promotional stable adds excitement as both pundits and fans want to see what the young man can do.
There is no doubt that he will be prepared for this big test while training up in Big Bear, California.
At 28 years old, Canos is a very crafty veteran fighter. The Mexican warrior is a former interim WBA Super-Lightweight titlist and is no stranger to the boxing community. He is known for sharing the ring with the likes of Shane Mosley, Paulie Malignaggi, Mauricio Herrera and Juan Carlos Abreu.
His surprising victory over then-undefeated Johan Perez saw him capture his first title for a major sanctioning body.
Madiev will have to use his power and body-punching to establish his game plan early.
On the other hand, Cano will be looking to play spoiler; being the man with more experience and hungry to regain a spot in the division.
This is a classic youth vs experience contest. Both men are looking to make their mark in a stacked division with contrasting styles. This promises to be a fan-friendly affair.
This main event fight is part of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN. It will air on ESPN2 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas on Sept. 13th.
