Hearn Taking Steps to Realize Anthony Joshua v Deontay Wilder in 2023!

If listening to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, very soon there could be a significant fight coming down the pipe for two-time heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-3, 22 KO’s). When speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn began a discourse revolving around his charges’ would-be next moves. Coming off back-to-back losses to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, it is very likely that AJ will remain out of action until next year. Yet if the stars line up, Hearn is hopefully that we might see Joshua versus Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KO’s) in 2023!

MORE OF THE SAME?

Well back in 2018, Teams Wilder and Joshua found themselves in a very lengthy, public and ultimately fruitless attempt to pen a fight. Not only were the negotiations bad, at the time, The Bronze Bomber walked away saying he would never do business with Hearn again. Wilder was the most irritated by what he said was an endless river of lies. Yet, according to Hearn, there is paperwork in play that is finally getting some traction.

“I actually sent Shelly Finkel an email back in August to talk about a deal and he actually replied to me yesterday. I invited them out here to Abu Dhabi this week, they can’t come, but I see the Deontay Wilder fight probably being the second fight for Anthony Joshua in all honesty, but he’s up for fighting anyone.”

Provided that this information is all up to snuff then this is very good news. Despite Wilder’s previous reticence to work with Hearn again, he has expressed his own interest in facing Joshua rather recently. With that being the case, this fight always was, and still remains one the best to be made in the division. So let’s hope that we do get some confirming correspondence to this behind-the-scenes information!
