Daniel Jacobs sends message to the rest of the middleweight division!

After the September 15 action-packed fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, Alvarez was awarded the victory by majority decision. Shortly after the new champion’s crowning, another top middleweight contender took to Instagram; seemingly taking aim at the rest of the division.

That fighter is Daniel Jacobs.

He had this to say immediately after Canelo-GGG 2 ended:

“I’m out to prove that I’m the best middleweight fighter in the world.”

Fans may remember that both Jacobs and Alvarez were in negotiations before Alvarez ultimately agreed to the rematch with Golovkin.

Now, with Alvarez-Golovkin over, eyes are looking towards what the new champ will do next. He now holds the WBC middleweight title; making Jermall Charlo his mandatory challenger. Moreover, Charlo has called out Alvarez in the past.

Next, Jacobs will be facing Sergey Dervanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title. If he wins that fight, expect momentum to build for a potential unification bout between himself and Alvarez.

Regardless of what happens next, make no mistake about it that after Golovkin’s loss, the middleweight division is wide open.
