When Jermall Charlo looks at David Benavidez, all he sees is food!

In boxing it is always a beautiful thing when two of the best earnestly want to fight one another. It is even better when they talk a great deal of trash en route to getting the fight done! This appears to the budding dynamic between WBC World Middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (31-0, 22 KO’s) and David “Red Flag” Benavidez (23-0, 20 KO’s). After publicly rekindling their desire to fight each other, they have been anything but at a loss for words.

In his last outing, his sole bout of 2020, Charlo beat-up and outclassed Sergiy Derevyanchenko to claim a unanimous decision victory. Derevyanchenko entered that fight coming in off a loss to IBF World Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Despite the official blemish on his record, many of those who saw the bout felt like Derevyanchenko was cheated. In against the Hit Man however, it was quite clear the judge’s awarded the proper victor. Now Charlo is looking in Benavidez’s direction seeking to claim a fresh conquest.

The last time that Benavidez stepped into the ring the outcome was not so cut and dry. On the one hand, he remained undefeated and stopped Roamer Angulo. On the other hand, Red Flag lost his WBC Super Middleweight title to the scales after coming in overweight. So it is unfortunate that Benavidez lost his title. At the same time however, it is good to hear Charlo is not using that as a rationale not to rumble.

YOUR MY SON!

When the former WBC Super Middleweight champion has spoken about Charlo, he did say that he was going to knock him out. However, Red Flag did at least give him credit for being a tough and skilled fighter. The Hit Man was not so generous in his description of Benavidez! In a recent session, going live on his Instagram account, Charlo aired his scathing true feelings about the Arizonan.

“They don’t want to fight me, that’s a little boy! What is he? I’m a grown ass man, he like what 23, 24? David Benavidez about 23, 24, I’ll hit him with some shit he ain’t never been hit with before! Y’all mothafuckas are retarded, I will hit him with some shit. Y’all remember the shit that happened with [Erickson] Lubin, them mothafuckas too dumb. They run right into that shit. Run right into that shit and snap his mothafucking neck! Like I am trying to kill him right! I kill stuff! He could be my son, I could raise your ass! What are we talking about?”

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

Presently, Benavidez has already signed off to collide with Ronald “Akeem” Ellis (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) on March 13. If not for this prior obligation, the Texan and Arizonan would more than likely have fought immediately. Provided that Red Flag is successful in his dust-up with Ellis, he would love a September dance date with Charlo. So far, the Hit Man has perfectly echoed Benavidez’s sentiments. However, he did throw in a few odd potential curveballs.

“Somebody tell Benavidez to call me right now and lets set this shit up! He ’68, I’m at ’60, we can go to ’68 and I still would put the 60 belt on the line. Like I am a dog, you know what I am saying? If you want it, you can get it!”

“…it’s like they are kids, I’m not fighting nobody under 25 and I’m not fighting nobody that doesn’t take the COVID vaccination. If you don’t get the vaccination, I’m not fighting you!”

Let us just hope that those final sentiments were more tongue-in-cheek than actual guidelines. We already have too many hurdles dealing with A-side/B-side demands and promotional affiliations to add age and vaccine stipulations to fight deals! So, let us just see how this continues to play out and hopefully a contract with be swift in the making.
