Brook Wants Big Name At 154lbs
Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook is set to return to the ring hopefully in March and he wants the bigger names in the 154lb division. Brook told Sky Sports he would be interested in a fight with Jermell Charlo, the WBC champion, Erislandy Lara, WBA champion, or IBF champion Jarrett Hurdwhen asked:
“I think I’ll have a meaningful fight, a comeback fight, a warm-up fight, and then we’ll be looking at jumping back on the high horse for a world title,” said Brook to Sky Sports.
“They are all very good fighters, they’re all world champions, they’re all talented fighters. Once I come back with a win, and my confidence is up there again, I’ll be looking at those names.”
Interestingly enough, Brook wenton to say he was also in talks for Miguel Cotto’s final fight which is this Saturday night in NYC atMadison Square Garden. It’s not clear whetherthe same date was discussed or not but Brook said:
“We came pretty close,” Brook said. “I left it to Eddie [Hearn] but I know that we were in talks and everything else, and I know that we were very close with it, but for one thing or another, it didn’t happen.”
“I would have loved that fight. I think the fans would have loved that fight. Miguel Cotto is a serious warrior. He’s entertained us for years and I would have loved to have shared the ring with him.”
Brook is trying to return from back to back losses to Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr in which he suffered a broken orbital bone in each fight. Now with both sides of his facial structure being repaired surgically it’ll be interesting to see if the Sheffield native is the same fighter.
