Kelly destroys tune-up before December bout with David Avanesyan!
This fight turned out exactly the way fans figured it would. Walter Castillo had only two loses in fifteen fights, however, he was not on the level of a Josh Kelly.
Castillo not only lost two out of his last five, but he would fight outside of his native country for the first time.
This fight was slow for maybe the first minute because the favorite had to measure his opponent. Once he figured him out, it was over from there. A minute and a half left in the first round, Kelly dropped Castillo with a straight right hand.
The Argentinian would recover, only to be knocked around the ring for about 45 more seconds before the referee stepped in.
In the post fight interview, it became clear why this fight happened. This was a “stay busy” event to get Kelly ready for former WBA regular champion David Avanesyan on December 8. The former champion lost his last bout to #2 ranked WBO contender Egidijus Kavaliauskas by sixth round knockout.
While Avanesyan is a former champion, he still may not be the kind of fight many want the phenom in Kelly matched up against.
