No winner could be declared between Josh Kelly and Ray Robinson!
Rising prospect Josh Kelly came out blazing in the opening round against veteran Ray Robinson. Throughout the opening round Kelly showcased his hand speed.
Round two was a much better round for Robinson who was able to pin the elusive Kelly against the ropes and tee off to the body.
Rounds three through six were all Kelly as he displayed his elusiveness and upper body movement, which was evident by the many swing and misses by Robinson.
He also landed hard left hooks and right hands to the head of his opponent.
The last half of the fight saw Robinson really turn up the pressure as he pinned Kelly in the corner and landed hard shots to the head and body.
His pressure and body work definitely slowed down the British prospect evident by the close nature of the bout in the second half compared to the first half.
The fight would be declared a majority draw with one judge scoring the fight 96-95 for Kelly and 95-95×2.
A lack of a jab and his decision to lay back on the ropes with his hands down will need to be fixed for the British prospect. Keeping these bad habits will prove to be costly as he steps up in competition.
For Robinson this is his second consecutive draw which has to be disappointing and frustrating considering, arguments could be made that he won both fights.
