Main Events aiming for August 4th
Sergey Kovalev (32-2-1,28KO’s) will be coming back to defend his title against none other than Eleider Alvarez (23-0,11KO’s), as previously reported by 3KingsBoxing.com last month. Kovalev will be putting his WBO Light Heavyweight Title on the line and the target date for the fight looks to be August 4th.
There’s no venue in place as of yet but it looks like the WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol (13-0,11KO’s) will be also featured on the card. Kovalev was last in the ring in March against Igor Mikhalkin and scored a seventh round TKO. This will be the second defense of his WBO Title.
Alvarez who is mostly know for being the mandatory for the WBC Light Heavyweight Title held by Adonis Stevenson. Alvarez has been accepting step aside agreements fees for about two years now, he also threatened a lawsuit to stop the championship bout between Stevenson and Badou Jack that’s happening on May 19th. His team mentioned the possibility of a lawsuit demanding that he be compensated or given his title shot. But, that talk stopped once he was able to secure the shot at Kovalev.
Bivol, who is coming off dismantling Sullivan Barrera in early March, will be the co-feature. It will be second time that Main Event has featured Kovalev and Bivol on the same card. One has to wonder does this mean we could eventually get Kovalev vs. Bivol down the road? Bivol’s opponent has yet to be determined, so for now it’s just against boxing iron man TBA. The card will be shown on HBO. Once we get official information on the venue 3KingsBoxing.Com will be putting out an update.
Update
The card will take place at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City.
