Sergey Lipinets Destroys Omar Figueroa Jr. in Nine Rounds!

In their most recent fight, welterweights Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets (17-2-1, 13 KO’s) and Omar Figueroa Jr (28-3-1, 19 KO’s) were in a must-win battle. This was because neither man had tasted victory since 2019. Figueroa Jr. was coming off back-to-back losses to Abel Ramos and Yordenis Ugas. In fact, in his last match versus Ramos, Figueroa Jr. appeared to have a mental episode in the ring.

Lipinets was slightly better, coming off a loss to Jaron Ennis and a draw with Custio Clayton. The defeat at the hands of Ennis is a tad more palatable given how talented he is and the fact he is tabbed to be the next great talent in the division.

In what should come as no surprise, both Figueroa and Lipinets came out guns blazing as both men quickly started trading leather! In a closely contested first round, Lipinets solidified the round for himself after landing a beautiful left hook that hurt Figueroa Jr. Round two was all Lipinets as he put Figueroa down with a hard right hand.

ONE-SIDED BEATING!

The battle of former world champions turned one-sided after an exciting opening round. Late replacement Lipinets demonstrated that he still has enough energy to compete at his proper weight class of 140 pounds. After being ripped and shredded with left hooks, right hands, and every other punch you can think of, his father had seen enough. After the conclusion of round nine, Omar Figueroa Sr. would keep his word and stop the bout.

Prior to this fight, Figueroa Jr. said the outcome of this fight would play a huge factor in whether or not he retired or kept fighting. I think it’s safe to say that we may have witnessed the last fight of the former world champion.
