Teofimo Lopez Attacks Top Rank Citing Jewish Stereotypes
Even as he turns down the most lucrative avenue of his professional career, WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (21-1, 13 KO’s) can’t get out of his own way. Over the past two years, inside the ring Lopez has unnerved his fans and disappointed boxing enthusiasts. Outside the ring, The Takeover has confused and offended. Similar to his fistic contemporary “King Ry” Ryan Garcia, Lopez is consistently trying to tap into racial-themed shock-value promotion.
At the outset, Garcia and Lopez both focused their despicable racial tirades on blacks. Their extended diatribes took place more than once and over several platforms. Ultimately, King Ry and The Takeover expanded their scope of disdain to other groups. For Lopez, he used the traditional trope of Jewish miserliness to ridicule Top Rank.
“That’s from Bob Arum himself, the chairman . . . He said it’s not pay-per-view worthy so why are we still making the fight pay-per-view? They are trying to fuck my life up, literally my career, because Top Rank doesn’t pay, he doesn’t pay. Top Rank doesn’t pay; they have the Jewish mentality and they don’t pay. That just is what it is!”
BALL IN YOUR MITTS NOW
Lopez is looking to face one tough gauntlet if he fulfills his proposed business arrangement with Chairman Turki Alalshikh. Ryan Garcia will dance with Rolando Romero, while Devin Haney will test his might against Jose Carlos Ramirez. Meanwhile, The Takeover is slated to challenge IBF 140-pound champion Richardson Hitchins. Of the three opponents, on paper, Hitchins is the most serious.
If The Takeover gets through Hitchins, then he’d be expected to face one of the winners of the previously mentioned duels. Provided he makes it through his brutish itinerary, Lopez will have gone a long way to restoring luster to his name. In fact, assuming The Takeover was the last man standing, he’d position himself as undeniably one of his generation’s more decorated stars. So, let’s see what transpires over the next several months and where all the cards land.
