Jessie Magdaleno signs multi-year deal with Top Rank
Jessie Magdaleno (25-1, 18 KOs) has inked a major multi-year extension deal with Top Rank. In doing so, he has secured his future in the sport.
The 26 year old Southpaw Las Vegas boxer is a former WBO Super-Bantamweight champion who is always in an exciting match. His fights with Nonito Donaire and Isaac Dogboe clearly left fans wanting more.
Magdaleno turned pro in 2010 and has been with the Top Rank brand ever since. Under their banner, he was guided to a championship in 2016. He would later lose his title to Dogboe in a fight of year candidate bout April 28 in Philadelphia, “The City of Brotherly love.”.
After suffering his first professional defeat to Dogboe, there were talks of him moving up. As rumors of him struggling to make weight surfaced, however, he has made it clear he wants to rematch Dogboe before moving up.
There is no doubt that resigning Magdaleno is a great move. It reassures the fans that Top Rank/ESPN are serious about promoting boxing. A move like this also puts the fighter’s mind to rest so he can focus on training and being ready.
Upon his return, Ismael Salas will be returning to his corner. Salas trained him earlier in his career. Consequently, he will be leaving his Southern California based gym/trainer Manny Robles.
Although nothing is official, it’s possible Magdaleno will return on the undercard of the ESPN+ bout featuring Jerwin Ancajas vs Alejandro Santiago Barrios Sept. 28.
As always,3kingsboxing will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they develop.
