Maurice Hooker Shrugs Missing Weight For Blair Cobbs Bout
During his tenure at super lightweight, it was apparent that the weight cut was no easy feat for Texas born fighter “Mighty Mo” Maurice Hooker (27-2-3, 18 KO’s). That was the primary factor instigating his move up to welterweight. Although it did not prevent him from picking up the WBO 140 pound title, which he defended twice before being stopped by Jose Carlos Ramirez.
After the Ramirez setback, and before officially going up to welterweight, Hooker agreed to fight one-time super lightweight champion Regis Prograis. Yet, that fight fell through when Hooker was unable to make the agreed upon weight. What made this so glaring is the fact that the match was already being contested at a 143-pound catch-weight. Now Mighty Mo once again is shaming himself on the scale.
At the official weigh-in for his dust-up with Blair Cobbs, Hooker tipped the scales at a near lawless 150 pounds! This is a full three pounds over the limit. Despite the unprofessionalism of the matter, Cobbs is is still eager to fight as this is a must win bout for both men! Only now, before they could get in the ring, Hooker has already tainted any potential win. So it will be interesting to see how this plays out on fight night!
When asked why he missed weight:
“Man shit happens! It’s boxing, it’s life, shit happens man. I mean, I got a lot on my mind, you know, it is what it is!”
