WBO super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue defended his title early this morning by stopping French challenger Yoan Boyeaux. Inoue improved to 15-0 with 13KO in what he says is his last fight in the 115lb division. Boyeaux was dropped four times in under three rounds.
The fight started with Inoue not throwing his first punch till almost a minute into the bout. He quietly stalked Boyeaux as he planned his attack. Boyeaux was flicking his jab in an attempt to appear the busier fighter but any hopes he had of winning a round came to a screeching halt with under 20 seconds remaing in the first as Inoue landed a left hook flush on the Frenchman’s jaw and dropped him.
Round two was more of Inoue sizing his opponent up as he looked to end the night early. In the third stanza the Japanese sensation went to work quick and often as he took his left hook downstairs and begin to torture Boyeaux to the body. Boyeaux was dropped three times in this final round by left hooks to the body as the referee saw enough to stop the fight.
It was the first time Boyeaux has been stopped in his career as he falls to 41-5, but also the first time he’s faced anything close to a “Monster” (pun intended).
