Nathan Heaney’s War With Brad Pauls Ends With No Winner
In a battle for the British middleweight crown, Nathan “Hitman” Heaney (18-0-1, 6KO) and Brad “The Newquay Bomb” Pauls (18-1-1, 10KO) fought to a draw.
It was the most exciting fight of the night as both fighters gave it their all from the start of the bell. In a tale of two halves, Hitman did a great job of fighting behind the jab and landing different variations of the right hand. In addition, he did a good job timing the charging Pauls with counter shots.
The fight seem to be an easy night for Heaney. Then The Newquay Bomb detonates a hard hook that hurts Hitman. Coming forward with hard shots against a severely dazed opponent, Pauls continued to build off the momentum over the next couple of rounds.
Down the stretch, both men inflicted pain on each other. Pauls had the British champion staggering from corner to corner as the crowd roared, anticipating a stoppage was coming. However, Heaney held on to fight back strong, using the jab and landing hard body shots.
In the end, the judges scored it 116-113 Heaney, 115-114 Pauls, and 114-114 even, making it a draw. In the post-fight interview, both fighters called for a rematch.
