Nathaniel Collins Well-positioned to Face Brandon Figueroa Next
In his latest tour of duty rising featherweight boxer Nathaniel “The Nightmare” Collins (17-0, 8 KO’s), dismantled Lee McGregor. With the spoils of war Collins picked up the vacant WBC silver featherweight title. Naturally the question now becomes: what’s on The Nightmare’s hit list next? Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa may be the next likely target for Collins.
Heading into the duel with McGregor, Collins held the #4 (WBC) ranking which put him in a great position for some solid fights. To begin, the #3 (WBC) ranked fighter is Figueroa (25-2-1, 19 KO’s), who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to rival Stephen Fulton. Despite his recent loss, Figueroa is a respectable name in the sport. Also, he would make for a great introduction to the American audience as Collins has never fought outside of his native UK.
A bit higher up the food chain is Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (15-0, 9 KO’s). Like Figueroa, Carrington is a great name and currently receiving a substantial amount of positive attention from the overall boxing world. Unlike Figueroa, Shu Shu is still undefeated and looking for the biggest names in the division. If Carrington cannot obtain a big fight of his liking, then perhaps he could be persuaded to expand his fan base by competing in the UK against Collins.
In a best-case scenario, The Nightmare would get a shot at WBC featherweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (23-1, 8 KO’s). Fulton is fresh off his February 1 win over the aforementioned Brandon Figueroa. As he has stated, Fulton is the most interested in taking on the fellow champions in the division. Yet, if Cool Boy Steph is unable to pen a prizefight with another belt holder, perhaps Collins can finagle his way into the biggest fight of his career.
