Fresh off his championship win, Rodriguez makes huge decision
The new IBF Bantamweight Champion Emmanuel Rodriguez has stayed in England. The reason why? Well, there will be an announcement sometime this week by the World Boxing Super Series about their upcoming bantamweight tournament. It’s gonna be a loaded tournament with the best in the division.
Rodriguez fresh of a dominating performance this past Saturday over Paul Butler to win the vacant IBF Title, while announcing himself on the world scene.
The Bantamweight tournament has been rumored for sometime now, we expect the likes of Ryan Burnett, Zolani Tete, and even Naoya Inoue to enter as well. Rodriguez has put himself in a great position as when 3KingsBoxing.com reported about this tournament, his wasn’t even mentioned.
Rodriguez is just 25 years old and perhaps trying to be the man that carries the torch for Puerto Rico on the boxing world scene. A position that has been left vacant by retirement of a future hall of famer, Miguel Cotto. Rodriguez victory has meant a lot to an island still recovering from Hurricane Maria, the young newly crown champion will hopefully make his way home soon.
He has been a refreshing distraction for folks and should get a hero’s welcome, especially after entering the Bantamweight tournament. Getting the victory over Butler has changed the young man’s career, as he has made the best out of his opportunity.
Puerto Rico a small carribean island with a rich boxing history, can Rodriguez be the next star? Can he turn the tide for a program that has been struggling to find their next big star. Can he carry the torch? Only time will tell as he enters this tournament with the who’s who, of the division.
