Walters Increases Win Streak With A Victory Over Joseph Adorno
Former featherweight champion Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters (29-1-1, 22KO) could enter the rankings after defeating Joseph “Blessed Hands” Adorno (18-4-2, 15KO) for a WBA minor lightweight title.
After a few rounds of both fighters feeling each other out, Blessed Hands finally got going, landing the jab and attacking the body of the former featherweight champion.
Despite being 38 years old, the Axe Man’s movement was fluid, and his awkward style was problematic at times. He made it a point to answer back with hard shots whenever Adorno tried to gain momentum.
In the middle rounds, Adorno targeted his opponent’s bloody nose by landing the jab and punishing uppercuts. He even used feints to get Walter to come forward to land more solid shots.
The Axe Man changed gears, fighting behind the jab, and took advantage of Adorno’s lack of punch output. He was able to keep the bloody nose from becoming a factor by using his experience to win the battle at mid-range.
In round nine, a frustrated Adorno was deducted a point for hitting after the bell. As the fight came to a close, the Jamaican looked fresh and fought hard to the end by landing multiple unanswered combinations.
The judge’s scorecards were 98-91, 97-92, and 95-94 in favor of Walters. 3Kings Boxing agrees with the decision, but the first scorecard was a little wide.
