Ohara Davies Calls Out Leonard Ellerbe and Rolly Romero for his Title Shot
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe wasn’t amused by a tweet from WBA junior welterweight mandatory challenger Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies (25-2, 18KO). Furthermore, he offered some advice to the British fighter that fell on deaf ears about not burning bridges.
WBA Regular junior welterweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero fights under the Mayweather promotional banner and has been the focus of Davies since winning the title against Ismael Barroso on May 13.
On May 30, Two Tanks demanded Romero fight him or vacate the title after the WBA ordered the two parties to begin negotiations. They have thirty days to come to an agreement, or the organization will call a purse bid. However, Team Romero is more interested in making a fight with Ryan Garcia.
OHARA DAVIES DOESN’T CARE ABOUT BURNING BRIDGES
As the negotiation deadline looms, it seems there has been no movement in making Romero versus Davies. Out of frustration, the Brit went on social media attacking the two members of Mayweather Promotions. Furthermore, he didn’t care about heeding the words of wisdom from Ellerbe.
The reality is Ellerbe has a point in telling the number-two ranked Davies to tread lightly. In being honest, the WBA skipped past him to allow then-number-five ranked Romero to fight champion Alberto Puello. So there was definitely some politics that took place in that situation.
In addition, Davies has no ties to any major boxing entity, which makes things even harder. Team Romero could request special permission that would allow them to fight Garcia, with the winner facing Davies afterward.
