De La Hoya’s Relationship With Garcia May Be Tarnished
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya and junior welterweight “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19KO) issues are at an all-time high. Things have reached such a bad point that De La Hoya admitted that he doesn’t believe it can be resolved.
This situation between the Golden Boy Promotions CEO and Garcia is like watching a Telenovela as they have aired out their grievances live on public display. The boxing fans were not surprised by reports that both sides levied lawsuits at each other. (Hyperlink #1).
CAN THINGS BE WORKED OUT?
While appearing on The MMA Hour, De La Hoya has openly admitted that he doesn’t speak with King.
“We have a lawsuit right now. I am not suing him for money, and he’s not suing me for money. I just want him to honor my contract that’s it. You have obligations, I want you to fight. I want you to be a legend, but he has people whispering in his ear.
“People have kept me away from him.”

De La Hoya was brutally honest when asked if the two could settle things in a face-to-face conversation.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so. No!”

De La Hoya stated that Garcia still has some years left on his contract and that Golden Boy will continue promoting his fights. Despite their issues, he fully approves of the junior welterweight choice of new trainer Derrick James.
The Golden Boy executive believes that James possesses that old-school, no-nonsense training style that will help get Garcia back on the right path. (hyperlink #3).
It will be interesting to see how things play out, as the two entities have to figure out a way to co-exist.
