Oscar De La Hoya Wants to Make Ryan Garcia Versus George Kambosos
After more than a year sitting on the sidelines, lightweight fighter Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18 KO’s) will return to the ring on April 9. On that date, he will test his might with Ghanaian boxer Emmanuel Tagoe. If successful in this endeavor, Garcia would love to then tackle one of the champions or a more respected adversary in the division.
Yet, Garcia’s Golden Boy Promotions promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has a more specific route for King Ry to travel. As he explained to Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya would love to secure Garcia a shot at the most belt-holding champion in the weight class: WBA Super, WBO and IBF lightweight champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KO’s).
“If he gets past Tagoe, I actually plan on going to Australia to watch Kambosos and sit down with Lou [DiBella of DiBella Entertainment] and hopefully iron out a deal for Ryan and Kambosos and make that happen by the end of the year!”
ONE BRIDGE AT A TIME
Provided that De La Hoya could deliver that bout, it would be a tremendous win for his company and fighter Ryan Garcia. This is because, for the moment, Kambosos has remained a tough target to nail down on paper!
It would also be a huge break for Garcia who has already technically twice avoided title opportunities with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney. So, to sidestep those chances and still end up fighting the most belt-carrying fighter in the division would be remarkable. Yet, not to throw shade, but time has taught us to wait and see what happens with Garcia before we get overly excited! So, we here at 3Kings Boxing will keep you posted on all the late breaking news and updates.
