Pedraza issues challenge to Lozada
Well after defeating Felix Verdejo last Saturday it appears that Antonio Lozada Jr may well get his chance to upset another Puerto Rican boxer in former IBF super featherweight champion Jose Pedraza.
Pedraza appeared on the same card as Lozada last weekend and he defeated Jose Rodriguez by unanimous decision. Pedraza issued a challenge to Lozada earlier today and wants to get revenge for his compatriot Verdejo.
Lozada shocked the boxing world by defeating Verdejo by 10th round stoppage, but in retrospect the signs were there for it to happen. A similar performance against Pedraza would no doubt put him on the fast track for a shot at a world title.
Yesterday 3KingsBoxing.com was told that Pedraza was possibly in line to face newly minted WBO lightweight champion Raymundo Beltran on the upcoming Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jorge Linares card. It is unclear however whether Beltran will receive medical clearance in time for a real training camp after suffering a suspension due to a cut he received in his fight against Paulus Moses in February.
The win over Rodriguez was Pedraza’s first fight under the Top Rank banner and his new promoter Bob Arum said today that he really likes the idea of a fight with Lozada.
