Shawn Porter Guarantees a Showdown Against WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford
Boxing fans are buzzing about the prospect of a showdown between WBO world welterweight champion Terence Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) and former two-time 147 pound champ Shawn Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs). It’s highly anticipated by all boxing enthusiasts.
During an interview on the Behind The Gloves YouTube channel, Porter gave an update. According to the native of Cleveland, Ohio, fans need to get their popcorn ready.
“It’s more than a rumor. That fight better happen, I will say that. We have a purse bid coming soon. I also know that my promotional team, his promotional team, is still trying to come to an agreement. So, the fight will happen.”
Porter says he’s heard all the rumors surrounding a fight with Crawford, but this is the position he’s always wanted career-wise. The fighter nicknamed “Showtime” explained he likes being on the minds of the boxing public. He’s excited the masses are clamoring for a fight against the three-division world champion who is currently ranked 5th in the 3KingsBoxing Top Ten rankings.
The bout was ordered by the WBO on July 21. A 30-day window was given for the two camps to reach a deal, or the fight would go to a purse bid on August 23. Crawford’s promoter, Bob Arum, petitioned the WBO for an extension. It was granted, and now the purse bid has been pushed back to September 14.

Fans are becoming increasingly upset at Crawford for not facing a prominent opponent at 147 and demand he engage in a big fight. Porter is an elite welterweight who has fought the division’s best since winning his first world title in 2013. It’s never an easy night when facing the durable and rugged warrior. “Showtime” is one of the most respected and well-liked fighters in the world, in and out of the ring.
Given that backdrop, Crawford-Porter comes at a perfect time. It’s a fight wanted by all and a more than competitive matchup on paper. Porter added this in conclusion:
