Queensberry Files Petition to Strip Alycia Baumgardner!
The team of undisputed junior lightweight champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (15-1, 7KO) revealed that Queensberry Promotions has filed a petition to have her stripped of the titles.
The Bomb came under scrutiny when reports of a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs surfaced after her rematch victory over Christina Linardatou. She vehemently denied any allegations of cheating and pledged to restore her reputation.
A PETITION TO TAKE AWAY THE TITLES
In an interview on Telemundo Deportes, an authorized representative, Dr. Ruthy Molina, disclosed that Queensberry Promotions had submitted the petition at the WBO convention.
“Being authorized and being able to give an official statement, first of all, we were not made aware of the petition, by Queensberry or Matchroom, in regards to the response to the positive testing. We were not made aware of that officially nor in writing.”
“We will address not only the issue at hand, but also respond to the petition that was presented here today . . . The petition was to strip the undisputed champion . . . of her titles immediately, or to at least show an action or order of showing cause.”
It is worth mentioning, none of the four governing sanctioning bodies have issued a ruling on the matter. The issue is still progressing through the regular process. Team Baumgardner has been adept at managing the public relations aspect, preventing any negative narratives from gaining momentum.
The undisputed champion is eager to secure a significant bout with undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano. With this petition now in play, a decision from the WBO could be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.
