Quillin returns in stride while taking a unanimous decision!
In a super middleweight bout we saw former WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin return to the ring after a year and a half layoff against J’Leon Love.
The opening stanza seemed to be anything but a fight, as both guys came out cautiously feeling each other out.
In rounds two and three we saw the former champion slowly but surely start to walk down his opponent. In the process, leading with his powerful left hook.
Feeling good about his production, Quillin was talking to Love’s promoter and boxing icon Floyd Mayweather who was sitting ringside.
In rounds four through six, we saw Quillin start to land more powerful combinations that caused Love to continue ceding ground. The decision to retreat cost the underdog many rounds in the fight.
As the fight entered the latter rounds, it became apparent Love was focused on survival and unwilling to exchange. Quillin continued to stalk his unresponsive opponent.
The judges had no problem picking the winner in this one. Quillin improves to 34-1-1 with 24 knockouts.
