Lerrone Richards v Zak Chelli Lands in London November 27!
When last in the ring, UK fighter Lerrone “Sniper The Boss” Richards (16-0, 3 KO’s) toppled Carlos Gongora. With the win, Richards also took possession of the IBO super middleweight title. In his mind, this victory was going to radically change the trajectory of his career. Being true to his belief, Sniper the Boss would call for fights with Caleb Plant, David Benavidez and even Canelo Alvarez. Sadly for him however, he secured zero of those top level matches. Instead, the UK champion will return to action on November 27 against Zak Chelli (12-1-1, 6 KO’s).
Obviously this is not the type of opponent that he wanted to face, but it beats a blank. Chelli is far from a world beater as he has only fought outside of his native UK one time and his resume leaves a great deal to be desired. In fact, he already suffered his first defeat to Kody Davies back on September 14, 2019. Chelli followed that UD loss up with a draw before going on a five-fight win streak. Earlier this year, Chelli also signed on with Boxxer Promotions.
It will be interesting to see how Richards does or doesn’t take advantage of this next opportunity. Yet, having vacated the IBO title and whilst largely being ignored by the heavier hitters in the division, Richards will have to make some serious noise to garner real attention. This is especially the case since he also split ways with Matchroom Boxing. Given his apparent lack of crushing power, coupled with his safety first style, it’s not likely that Richards will make enough commotion to garner American attention. Nevertheless, stranger things have happened. So let’s see how it all plays out and if any of it works in Richards’s favor!
