Rolly Romero Thinks Ryan Garcia Has Dwindled in Market Value

Following his latest knockout win over Oscar Jurado, 140-pound boxer “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s) called out WBA super lightweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-1, 13 KO’s). Instead of eagerly licking his chops thinking of the juicy payday, Romero feigned indifference. Not only did he not show a great amount of interest, as he explained to Fight Hype, he does not feel that Garcia is worth of a shot at his hardware.

“I don’t think he deserves it, that’s what I say. He does not deserve to share a ring with me.”

FROM GAB TO JAB

When it comes to Rolly, one must take things with a grain of salt. It’s no secret that he’s literally made a career of being a lovable villain. This is evidenced by his essentially talking himself into a mega-showdown with the immensely popular Regular WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta Davis.

After losing that match however, Romero bounced back with a shaky win over veteran bruiser Ismael Barroso. Since that dubious duel, Rolly all but disappeared from the boxing world. According to Romero, he’s been nursing an injury since the last scrap, an injury that he’s been exceedingly tight lipped about.

THE FLASH VS THE INSTIGATOR

If he is not injured, or expected to be cleared for combat soon, Romero could do a lot worse than King Ryan. It’s guaranteed to be a big fight, it’s a great first defense and he’d seemingly be catching Garcia in a transition phase with new coach Derrick James. Not only this, the two have sparred one another in the past. Even better, Rolly enjoyed his success in that past fracas.

So for the time being, we’ll just have to sit tight and see if the WBA 140-pound champ truly has no reaming desire to dance with Garcia, or if he is just needling King Ryan. More likely than not, this is merely Rolly slipping into character and beginning to wind up the crowd. Let’s hope so. Again this is a solid fight and would make for some memorable pre-fight hype. No matter the ultimate outcome though, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
