Garcia Gunning For Rolly Romero’s Head!

Well it seems that super lightweight “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KO’s) remains keen to face regular WBA champ Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-1, 13 KO’s). The two were trading insults and frequently spoke of their desire to dance with one another just a few months ago. Despite the vitriolic back-and-forth, nothing of substance came of the situation. Now, while briefly speaking to the media, King Ry once again put in his bid to test his might against Romero.

“I’m ready to get at it at 140, bring on Rolly, he is part of the PBC. We already ran it once with the PBC, I need to get my ‘get back.’ So, I am going to beat Rolly ass and we’re going to have that at 140!”

SECOND TIME A CHARM?

The reference to the PBC was a call back to Garcia’s (24) only professional loss to regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, In the biggest fight of his career, King Ry was sat down with a nasty body shot and rendered unable to continue past the seventh round. Even with the setback however, Garcia remains solidly ranked #5 (WBA), #8 (WBC), #9 (IBF) and #12 (WBO).

A duel with King Ry would be equally beneficial for Rolly. Despite picking up the secondary title in his last match, many in the boxing world question the victory. After struggling with a much older and unheralded Ismael Barroso, Romero prevailed by what many felt was a quick stoppage. Provided that Rolly could claim the scalp of the more classically trained Garcia, it would go a long way to show that he is more than just a promotional hype job that he is often accused of being.
