Shakur Stevenson Wants a Ryan Garcia Fight
On April 30, WBO super featherweight champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KO’s) will stage an important unification bout. In that contest he will test his might against the challenge of WBC 130-pound champ Oscar Valdez. It’s a duel that Stevenson has coveted and called for over two weight divisions. Now that he has the fight signed and date impending, Fearless could not be happier.
Of course, whether win, lose or draw, his career will not come to an end on April 30, so it’s natural for Stevenson to have some notion of who he would like to fight next. One of the names at the top of his list is #2 (WBC) ranked lightweight pugilist Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18 KO’s). In a recent interview with EsNews, Stevenson eagerly expressed his interest in securing that fight as soon as possible.
“Me and Ryan Garcia, I got him! I will take it [the fight]! Anytime they ever offer me that fight, I will take it…I know that if me and him fight right now, tomorrow, three years later, five years later, I’m going to beat him!”
STAY FOCUSED
Clearly, Stevenson feels that his skillset will overcome any supposed weight advantage that Garcia may have over him. Provided that this match was constructed, it would certainly be an intriguing affair. Yet, as mentioned earlier, Fearless must first take care of business on April 30 when he next gloves up for Oscar Valdez.
Likewise, Garcia must get past the challenge of Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9. Assuming that they successfully navigate their prizefights, then maybe we can revisit this imaginary dust-up. But first, let’s see what they do in their next tour of duty.
