Shakur Stevenson v Oscar Valdez 130lbs Unification Bout Tracking for April!
A showdown between two unbeaten two-division world champions is currently in talks for April 30 at the MGM Grand. WBO junior lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (17-0, 9KOs) and WBC champion Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23KOs) are inching close to a deal for a high stakes unification bout.
Stevenson, a 2016 U.S. Olympic silver medalist, has been hot on the trail of Valdez since the two were campaigning at featherweight. In 2019 when Valdez was the WBO featherweight champion, Stevenson was named his mandatory. Instead of taking him on, he elected to make the move up junior lightweight division. In doing so, he would challenge the then hard-hitting WBC champion Miguel Berchelt. Valdez would stop him cold in their February 2021 fight.
Immediately after disposing of former WBO champion Jamel Herring in ten one-sided rounds, in his post fight interview, Fearless let it be known that Valdez was next on his hit list. Now with everything seemingly finally aligned for the two former WBO featherweight champs to lock horns in this long overdue fight, Stevenson finally gets the marquee bout he’s been so badly craving. As for Valdez, he gets yet another opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong and pull off another upset against a very talented and defensively brilliant boxer.
